About The Salafi Masjid

A community rooted in the Quran and Sunnah, serving Birmingham and beyond.

The Masjid

The Salafi Masjid is located in the heart of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and forms part of the Salafi Bookstore and Islamic Centre (Charity No. 1083080). It has served the local Muslim community for decades as a place of worship, learning, and brotherhood.

The masjid is committed to the methodology of the Salaf — the earliest generations of Muslims — following the Quran and Sunnah as understood by the Companions of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with them all).

Regular activities include the five daily prayers, Jumu'ah khutbah, weekly lessons in aqeedah, fiqh, tafseer, and Arabic language, as well as community events, Quran circles, and youth programmes. The masjid hosts scholars and students of knowledge from around the world for lectures and seminars.

Why This App Exists

Community members were missing Janazah prayers because word didn't reach them in time. Newcomers didn't know when the weekly lessons were. Parents couldn't find youth programme schedules. Information was scattered across WhatsApp groups, notice boards, and word of mouth.

This app solves a simple problem: keep the community connected to their masjid. One place for prayer times, announcements, and events. No social media noise. No algorithms deciding what you see. Just direct communication from your masjid to your pocket.

It was built by members of the community, for the community. Every design decision — from the calm colour palette to the offline-first architecture — was made with the real needs of congregants in mind.

Our Principles

01

Privacy is non-negotiable

We don’t track you. We don’t profile you. We don’t sell your data. No analytics SDKs, no advertising networks, no telemetry. The masjid’s timetable is bundled with the app — the app doesn’t need your location, and doesn’t ask for it.

02

No ads, no monetisation

This app will never show advertisements. There are no premium tiers, no in-app purchases, no subscription fees. Every feature is free, for everyone, forever. This is a sadaqah jaariyah — an ongoing charity whose reward continues beyond this life.

03

Accessibility for all

Our community includes elderly congregants, people with visual impairments, and those who aren't tech-savvy. The app uses high-contrast colours, large touch targets, clear typography, and VoiceOver/TalkBack support. If your grandfather can't use it comfortably, we haven't done our job.

04

A considered app

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed Allah has prescribed ihsan (excellence) in everything.” We hold that as the standard we aim at — not one we claim to have reached. Prayer times, offline paths, layout, typography: each has been weighed for a community who will open this many times a day.

05

Offline-first, always

The app works without an internet connection. The prayer timetable is bundled with the app — no network call. Cached announcements and events stay readable. Prayer should never depend on a cell signal.
